Wednesday 31 May – tramping around the docks

We seem to have to catch up on endless admin in the morning as messages come through over night. By lunchtime we needed to walk, Rowan had a few things to sort out in the dock area, including looking for another chandlery. We walked around pretty grimy streets, looking for various items, but found most things way too expensive and much cheaper to get from home. But we did find a long ladder to fit on the side of the boat making it much better for me to get on and off, which I am very happy about. We walked to the company that has the big crane that is big enough to haul PolePole out the water. A lot of the haul out places we are too wide for. It was reassuring for Rowan to meet the guy going to do it. Of course they are running behind schedule, so just as well we put in an appearance.

We invited the Kiwi couple for drinks with Glen and Oana. The Kiwi couple were intriguing, she looks so much younger than us but they have two kids who are in their early twenties. They lived in China for 10 years, when the kids were growing up, the daughter now teaches Mandarin in NZ. We were rather surprised when he said he has been a pastor for the last 10 years, we very rudely asked him how he funded his life, and it turned out he had had a very successful construction business which he took to China. They were very nice and friendly, she surprised us by suddenly saying she needed to go back to their boat and she send a message to her hubby saying she wasn’t coming back as she wasn’t feeling well, he explained it as ‘that time of year’! Not monthly, which had us all wondering. God has pointed him in his many life choices!

Glen and Oana brought us some delicious quiches from the deli, that we had for supper. Early night for us as Rowan has a very early morning phone call.
