It was a very windy night, apparently there is normally only one Bogi Walu a season, we are now into our third one.
Rowan dropped me off in some wonderful shade from a big tree on the beach, with our new beach chairs. I spent a very comfortable hour reading on my ipad while Rowan went snorkelling. He wasn’t too impressed with the coral but had a good swim around. A local long boat was at the beach with some young lads who were trying to catch some fish, a while later a few men walked out the bush with sacks of coconuts. They had obviously come to harvest them. Interestingly the two islands here are privately owned and there are signposts warning people not to trespass, everyone seems to totally ignore the warnings.
Rowan had invited the crew from Taihoa to have drinks on the beach with us. We went a little earlier to find a good spot to beach the tenders, as the tide is low. With the wind a wave was breaking and it was looking way too tricky to easily get on and off the beach. We headed over to Taihoa and were amused to find out they had not seen the bit about drinks on the beach, so they were all dressed up planning to head for PolePole. So we reconvened on PolePole. I had to do the quickest tidy up as they arrived 5 minutes after us. We had a very jolly evening with the wind howling around us, at least there is no swell so we are not rocking. A couple more catamarans arrived in the afternoon, as Rowan noted, 80% of the boats in the anchorage are Cats – 4 Cats and 1 monohull.

Heading to the beach for evening drinks

Drinks on board PolePole, with the Taihoa crew. Sue and Nigel who own the boat, Clare (Sue’s sister) and Jonathan, who live in the UK, are shareholders in the boat and are spending the whole season sailing together. The other lady was a kiwi friend visiting for a week, who has taught in all sorts of exotic countries, with Sue and Nigel, who are both maths teachers.
