We realised that Manley beach where we were anchored was the venue for the Moth World Championships. I’ve never heard of these tiny single handed foiling sail boats before, until we discovered that Richard our life saver who fixed the water maker, his son was competing which is why they were in Gulf Harbour marina for so long. Today was the last day of the championships, Rowan managed to contact them and impressively their son has come sixth out of about 50 entrants. We had come to Manly beach to pick up Roy and Libby who are joining us for a sail this weekend. They arrived around midday, with the news that Roy’s heart surgeon could see him this evening at 7pm, which is 3 months early! Of course they needed to go to it, we got them on board to drop their bags and then headed to the beach for an afternoon walk on and to see the last of the Moths whizzing in.
Roy and Libs headed off to Auckland late afternoon, in the meantime Rowan invited his old school friend Rob who lives down the road to join us for drinks on the boat. They came on board in pretty choppy waters which was a bit of a drenching for poor Leanne who is not used to this boating life! We had a very jolly couple of hours before we had to pick Roy and Libby up at the beach at 9:15pm in the dark and deposit Rob and Leanne.

I think Mosquito would have been a better name for these Moths whizzing by

An amazing tree near the beach
