Woke up to the sun lighting up the cliffs nearby magnificently, a stunning little beach nestled by two towering rocky cliffs, incredibly scenic. Rowan went into Whitianga town and picked up Tim and Carol with their dog Benji. The plan was to do a day trip over to the other side of the bay, near the site of yesterday’s incident and see how Benji copes with being a boat dog. There was no wind so we motored across and found a nice spot to anchor, however the nearby beaches were very difficult for landing JeldiJeldi as they had a breaking wave. We headed up to a more sheltered beach and had a lovely walk with Benji. To everyone’s relief, Benji is a boat dog, he took to it like a duck to water! Hoping in and out the dinghy onto PolePole no problem. He is a very handsome 8 year old Springer Spaniel. This means they will all join us tomorrow to go for a sail up to Mercury islands for a couple of nights.
We went out and had supper in Whitianga, I had a huge bowl of the enormous green lipped NZ muscles, delicious, but an enormous amount to eat. We were pleased to have our padded sailing jackets on, it was pretty chilly on the way home in JeldiJeldi.

Morning sun catching the cliffs next to where we anchored

Gorgeous beach between the cliff, it must be a little walk through the bush to get there, but well worth it

Benji is a relaxed boat dog

Near the scene of Rowan’s rescue yesterday

Our walk on the beach, with this Oyster catcher couple never leaving their rock

Amazing rock shapes

Walking with Benji

The Oyster catchers were not budging

Our anchorage for the night was the next cove along closer to Whitianga

Lovely anchorage with a beach and a few boats

We were anchored in the little cove between Cooks Beach and Whitianga, last night we anchored the northern end of Cooks Beach
