We had a delayed start as Venancio came to sell his molas to us, claiming he sews them all himself. Sadly his prices were way above the rest we have bought, but they were a lot more detailed and would take much longer so most probably worth it, but thought it was better to buy from a woman.

Wrecks on the reef near Chichime

Chichime
We headed for our favourite island of Eben’s, booked in for supper and more delicious focaccia. We’ve got an issue with our guest hull bilges. Rowan got his nifty little garden hose pump out that runs on his drill and we drained them. We have had fresh water coming in to both hull’s bilges during heavy rain. We have temporarily blocked the drainage holes on the roof, the rain just has to flow off the end of the roof now instead of going into the gutter. It seems to be the issue and it’s certainly stopped the leak in our cabin. I was giving the bilges a good dry down and discovered a tiny leak coming through the side next to the dagger boards. We must have damaged it when we hit the coral we assume. Rowan has sealed it and we are crossing fingers it stops leaking!

Gorgeous islands along the way

Keeping our distance at the anchorage
Bungay has a sign post that was continually vandalised while the kids were growing up. It was BUNGAY SWIMMING POOL, some wag always changed it to SWIM IN POO! So it is a phrase our family is very familiar with. Feeling a little dispirited about our leak, we set off, soon we noticed a terrible stench and discovered the loo water was coming out the loo vent! So started our next few hours dealing with shit! We knew where the top valves were and thought we might be able to rod it, but sadly it bends immediately. Luckily we have a salt water hose to wash down the deck! We decided to head to the anchorage and go to a spot further out where nobody goes so that we could try and sort the blockage. Anchored, poor Rowan manfully went overboard to see if he could rod up the outlet pipe with no success. Finally he got the snuba out, his battery operated diving gear. He surfaced, pleased but grimacing at the same time. He found that barnacles had completely sealed the outlet. They are such tough buggers, he had to chip them off with a big screwdriver. Once he was out we opened the tanks and bingo the floodgates released! Not a pleasant job but had to be done. We found exactly the same with our side. We were surprised to find the anchorage full, seven boats! They must have been wondering what we were up to!
What a relief to be freshly showered and heading off to Eben’s delicious restaurant for an early supper. Once again we were the only people, some Scandies came on land with some dogs and sat in Evan’s bar where he can’t serve alcohol as he doesn’t have a licence! We had another delicious meal, with the best ceviche and plantain chips. We took a bottle of sake with us, which is so delicious with fish. Rowan had spotted that Eben had got an excellent recommendation on the website Noforeignland.com, so I’m sure the guests will arrive.
What a day!! We consoled ourselves by watching the episodes of White Lotus that we had mistakenly skipped!
