Sunday 20 October – getting ready

We got everything packed away securely, JeldiJeldi strapped up, the kayak put away and various things secured. We are loaded with food, the Code Zero is up, and we are ready. The whole pontoon is a hive of activity with everyone preparing for departure. We have the tiniest little 32 foot wooden boat next to us and on the other side, a 62 foot carbon fibre beast. And we are all preparing to head off to NZ.

In the afternoon an Australian couple came for tea who we had met int the Lau Group of islands. They have to wait even longer than us for a weather window, as they are on a motor launch, they need flat waters. They are also going to NZ. Patrick the solo French sailor also popped in for a beer, Catherine his partner is back in Brittany teaching English to the French Navy! He heads to NZ in a week.

We ate on board as we couldn’t face another mediocre meal at the marina restaurant. So we celebrated with boerewors (South African sausage) on the BBQ. Early to bed, as we acclimatise to our week of shifts.
