Stormy night

The stormy season has definitely arrived. We had pouring rain in the early hours of the morning, what is wonderful is that it has cooled the temperature down, which is blissful.

It’s a slow day but at least it is much cooler. We have watched boats arriving and the first lot of quarantiners departing. Rowan howls with envy as each of the boats depart. The boat nearest to us departed in the afternoon, Rowan had been in touch with them, they said their Covid test had gone smoothly just a slight delay in getting results.

The Norfolk’s got Talent votes didn’t exactly pour in….. if we don’t count Neil’s questionable spirit medium and we assume Janice (David’s wife) voted for him they are neck and neck! Loved some of the comments – ‘Neil’s timing is special!’ and ‘there is something plaintive about it’.

Just to get off the boat we sought permission to take our rubbish to the dock in Jeldi Jeldi, and then did a very slow pootle back through all the boats at anchor, 130 apparently. Anything to break the monotony. We found one South African ensign. We tried yelling a bit of Afrikaans nearby but got no reaction, they must have been below deck. We had seen their boat arrive one evening in Anse d’Arlet in Martinique, Rowan googled their boat, and they have obviously had a rough time in a storm off the American coast where their mast snapped off! We had planned to go over and see them the next morning but they must have left at first light. Funny to see them again down here, makes you realise there are a lot of us doing the same thing, as we see familiar boat names. The coast police do a lot of patrolling in their boat, and there seems to be no socialising, so no real chance to meet up with them.

The old town on the opposite side to the marina.

The very attractive marina with the dinghy dock and the Covid testing tents.

On the way into the port.

Back to the quarantine anchorage.

The beach we enviously look onto.

The clouds over the mountain that bring all the rain in.

Sadly the repair job to the freezer was futile and it has gone on the blink again, so we are manfully consuming and cooking up all the meat we had in it. Luckily we had not put too much into it, but was hoping it would last us the whole quarantine period. At least we are half way through quarantine today.

My sunset G&T is not quite the same without a clinking cube of ice.
