Solo shopping

What little wind we have, has changed direction and although it looked like cloud cover when we set out on our walk, the temperature has risen, and it is VERY hot. Sadly this has brought out the mozzies and flies in full force. By midday there was not a cloud in the sky and very little breeze. We feel rather greedy confined to our enormous Catamaran while the other 3 couples in the marina are all on monohulls.

I do love my online Times newspaper, keeping tabs on the C19 developments, which I suppose is why I saw no April fool’s pranks in these serious times. It’s rather exciting getting tomorrows newspaper just after supper, I can’t resist reading the headlines before going to bed.

This morning we tried to have our combined family chat on WhatsApp but sadly Han got called off. They have been following a pride of lions with 5 cubs, and the male killed a cub yesterday which was very sad. So when she messaged to say she couldn’t make the chat as they had an incident we were desperately hoping he hadn’t killed anymore. Phoebs is having an interesting experience in lock down. They rescued some abandoned duck eggs and borrowed our gardener’s incubator. They also have a special egg candler light, and can see the little ducklings developing. They have researched how to bring them up and will have an even busier time on their rota of duties in two weeks time! Luke seems to be in good form in isolation on his own and not going stir crazy in Johannesburg.

As only one person per couple is allowed to the shops, Peter the German, and I went to wait for Bob (marina owner – for new comers to the blog like Lucy!) at 12:30 as agreed. Turns out that only one person is allowed to the shops including driver, so he is kindly letting us all take turns to use his car. I let Peter go first and in that time took our English couple’s advice and improvised a face mask. I found an eye mask that I think did the job quite well. The supermarket had a very orderly good natured queue, with all the two meter distances taped out for us in the shade. Besides not allowing us to have more than two of anything, it all was very well stocked and organised. I was very happy to find wholewheat flour today for my bread, last week they had none. The only thing I wanted that they had run out of was dried yeast. But hoping mine lasts until they get some in.

showing off all our outdoor space and swimming pool behind!

It was way too hot to do our afternoon walk, so we opted for a slow swim around the marina. It’s good exercise as there is always a tide current going one way or the other.
