Settling into our quarantine

We were at the cruise dock at 9am, we were told to wait out in the water as the Coast Guard boat was in the way. It wasn’t long before the patrol guards sauntered down the jetty onto their boat carrying huge machine guns. It sounds like there may be a bit of a drug mafia on the island. Anyhow once they were gone, we were on the dock for our medical approval. We saw a very jolly chap using the cruise ship desk in the smart new building which was all looking rather neglected, I guess it has seen no use in over a year. He soon had us wrist banded and sent us on our way with our instructions, no leaving the boat or visiting other boats but we can swim around the boat.

Our quarantine flag up with the smart Dominica flag.

Our neighbours……sailed across from Wales this year

We got back and had a mammoth clean of the boat with buckets of sea water getting the ash off. Rowan was sloshing the water and I was scrubbing with one hand, it took an enormous amount of bucket fulls to shift the ash. We finally got there and were happy to put our awning up, as it is roasting on the boat.

Awning up, there is the red roof, the end of the quarantine area! Looks brand new but absolutely deserted with goats roaming through it. We have christened it the Mausoleum, it is such a blot on the landscape.

A beautiful sunset, just look at the angle on the rocking monohulls.

This is Cabrit National Park that we are looking onto, a Unesco World Heritage site, the slave troops overpowered the Brits at the fort here in 1804 and three years later all slaves were freed. We will have to explore it when we are free to roam.
