The weather guru has told us that a big swell from the north is looming and Rowan was keen for us to get to the other side of the island where we would be protected from it. He wanted us to get there early before it fills up with other boats who have the same idea. After a leisurely breakfast we headed to Friendship bay. With the winds against us and the need to have the engines on to make water, we didn’t get the sails up, however it was a very scenic route around the point.

Looking back at Peggy’s Rock at the highest point

Shipwreck, a good reason to go right around the point

One of the weirder developments on the island, called Moonhole, a whole lot of homes made in a reserve area, all sympathetically made out of stone but very odd looking, this one is right in the the arch of the cliff.

Rounding the point with St Vincent in the distance

Rounding the point with Mustique in the distance

Lots of bird life judging from the amount of white on the cliffs

Coming around the other side …….glad we didn’t take that short cut!

The Whaling station island, very sad to think it still goes on, but at least they usually only get one or two a year

Friendship Bay

A very narrow entry into Friendship bay
We swam quite a distance to the beach with flippers to help us, there were little waves breaking on the beach, and we did not feel like lugging JeldiJeldi up off the beach. After hiding our flippers in the bush we had a lovely walk all the way along the beach and met a few people along the way. The one couple were from the Catamaran near us, French much younger than us and out exercising their Pug. Met a lady who lives here, definitely not local who comes and walks a feral dog everyday and feeds it, she says she can’t take it home, I’m not sure why, but they seemed a very happy bouncy couple, a real contrast to the poor old strutting French Pug! We passed the Bequia Beach Hotel where Rowan was hoping we might have supper at their well known restaurant called Bagatelle (reminded me so much of my dad, he was a frequent user of that word!), sadly the hotel and restaurant have all closed as the last guests left today. Things are definitely closing down.
A good swim back over the swells. Rowan checked the latest with the weather guru who has delayed his swell prediction from the north. Not good for us as there is a normal swell here so we are rolling about like crazy, which is obviously why there is not a single monohull in the bay and only 2 other Catamarans.
Rowan had found this huge rack of lamb chops at the supermarket so we splashed out and feasted on BBQ’d chops for supper.
