All the boats we have been cruising with are heading to Pentecost island, we’ve booked together to go to a ceremony on Monday. Laura from Rala has to return to the UK for her brother’s funeral, so we’ve all decided to do an overnight sail to Pentecost Island, celebrate Rowan and Jeff’s birthdays onboard PolePole tomorrow night and do the Land Diving ceremony on Monday. Alia Vita and Jiyu are joining us too, we need at least 8 people for a performance!
I spent the day baking, two loaves of my normal bread, a focaccia for tomorrow night, plus a chocolate birthday cake. So I was very busy! Rowan went and had a snorkel on the reef but the visibility wasn’t good, the storm has churned up the water.
We left at 4pm so that we would arrive at our destination at first light. I did the first shift which was easy, a nice constant wind in the low teens. Rowan took over around midnight and the wind died as we wiggled through the islands. Predict wind had said it was quicker to go out to the east of the islands on the windward side, but we thought it would be more comfy going in between the islands. Everyone else did that.

Nearly a full moon for our overnight passage, always helpful

Volcanoes everywhere, we passed an active underground volcano, which has no exclusion zone on the charts, unlike Kick em Jenny in the Caribbean

So many little islands to avoid

Great twilight colours
