Saturday 4 January – sitting out the wind

Another day of big winds, and scattered showers. We had a very lazy start to the day and then headed to the beach for a walk to stretch our legs. There is a big jetty that the ferry comes to, we spotted a dinghy there and discovered a small dinghy dock we could tie up to. I think a lot of people don’t use it because of all the sharp oysters on the poles of the dock. We found a spot to tie up JeldiJeldi without risking her going onto the shells or getting stuck under the floating pontoon. Yesterday we had been lucky enough to have the Scoots crew help us carry JeldiJeldi the 50ms to water, today we were on our own. when she got left high and dry at low tide.

We walked up the hill back towards Stony batter, sadly we had to walk on the gravel road which was quite busy but otherwise a good walk. On our return we explored the beach to the far end. It was very low tide, there was a Chinese guy eating oysters off the rocks, Rowan warned him that all the boats out in the bay would be flushing their loos into the water, the poor guy looked horrified!

We timed our walk perfectly and did not get wet, the downpour arrived just as we were safely back on PolePole.

I love the thick natural forest

Very tropical looking bush with so many palms

Very tidy vines and the intense blue sky in between the clouds

Wild flowers everywhere, the agapanthus spreads everywhere like wildflowers, it reminds us of the English bluebell woods. Sadly the agapanthus is regarded a bit of a pest here as it has been introduced, originally from South Africa.

I think they look lovely

Brown sandy beach covered with shells

A gorgeous house on the beach

So many boats in the bay

Low tide

I was very impressed with their floating rubbish collection barge, with different recycling bins on it
