Saturday 3 January – moving on to the huge Mayalibit Bay

Rowan,Dani and Phoebe went off to the market to get some fresh provisions and most importantly eggs. We were down to cabbage and potatoes, we were definitely in need of a restock. With my cold I did not feel like going to the bustling market, Rowan said there were so many people with colds at the market including the taxi driver, so I guess it is like the flu outbreak in the UK.

Midday we got the anchor up and headed to the big inland bay that we have been to before. We passed the place where we anchored last time on the narrow river like entrance to the bay. This time we went into the huge bay and around the corner in amongst sound karst islands. A beautiful setting with loads of mangroves down to the water’s edge. Rowan went paddle boarding while Phoebs and Dani cooled off hanging onto the boat…..this does look like croc territory! It is incredibly peaceful here, not a boat in sight, we are off the main river route. It was a very restorative quiet night.

Phoebs said I should put a photo of the rubbish streams we so often have to pass through, it all collects into streams with the current.

Anchoring in the big bay

The entrance to the river leading to the big bay, not really a river but certainly looks like one

One of the corners on the river near where we anchored last time

Looking back, always good clouds about

Where we anchored last time, you can just see a yacht peaking out

Out into the enormous bay
