Saturday 22 June – chewing up the miles as it gets warmer and warmer

Everything is going well, the wind is doing exactly as the weather router predicted and we are following the advice faithfully. We haven’t had to use the motors at all, the winds consistently in the high teens, low twenties, giving us great speed. Everyone is in great form slipping into the routine of the shifts and midday naps.

We flew Baby Spice all night, she is one of our favourite sails, for her small size she really pushes us along, at about 80% of the big Scary Spice Spinnaker. She is so manageable that Rowan and I can handle her on our own, whereas Scary is a beast to get up and down. Rowan has bought yet another new Spinnaker which he is itching to get out, but we’ve had a bit too much wind. Not really sure why we needed a 4th Spinnaker! No doubt it will become evident at some stage…… Round midday we took Baby Spice down and put Posh the Jib back up as the wind swung around to the more typical Trade Wind direction. We are keeping up a good speed hitting 15 knots coming down a wave at one point. The waves are definitely getting choppier with a big swell, but reasonably comfy and not in the seasickness league! Some good crashing noises into the odd wave, but generally quieter as our new dampeners on the dagger boards are working a treat.

The sails look good with their repairs and holding a better shape

Bouncing along nicely!

I’m loving my new Airfryer, we cooked some delicious thick rib eye steaks that came out perfectly. It has two baskets, so we could do the steaks on top and potatoes underneath. Last night I did the broccoli in the Airfryer, it came out nicely roasted and crunchy, worked really well. It is baking my bread perfectly on it’s baking setting, so much nicer than having the hot gas oven on, which has turned into a storage compartment!

My turn off late night shifts! We put a reef in the main sail to give a slightly more comfy ride, which worked well and we still seem to be cruising along at the same speed.

The enormous moon hanging under the cloud

Happy Rowan!

Must be nearing land as Boobies are about

Great to be doing night shifts with a full moon, especially as we have had to keep an eye out for Chinese fishing trawlers
