Rowan and Matt get diving instruction from Kylie

Stella and I don’t dive and seeing as this place is diving paradise, the boys wanted to give it a go. Luckily Matt had been diving fairly recently in Thailand but Rowan hasn’t been diving since we went to Dahab over 10 years ago. Kylie very gallantly offered to do a refresher dive with them. So they went diving from the dive shop, Stella and I went into town, I wanted to spend a morning getting my blog updated as the wifi we currently have on the boat is painfully slow and not enough to download photos easily.

We moved out of the marina back onto a mooring ball, Matt and Stella went ahead in the dinghy which all landed up being a comedy show as we were chased off trying to pick up a private mooring ball, then Matt could not restart the dinghy and they were valiantly trying to paddle unsuccessfully against the tide. We finally towed them to a much better mooring ball further out. We discovered the kill cord was not on properly which is why poor Matt could not start the engine. We finally got on, we were very happy to be out in the breeze and clean water.

We invited Kylie over for dinner, in her honour we had delicious NZ lamb chops (from Bequia) on the bbq and got stuck into the mega supply of red wine under the guest cabin. Kylie was fascinating, she trained as a vet in NZ, then moved to Houston Texas where she had two kids and got into real estate. Now divorced, her two kids, young teenagers, live back in NZ with their Dad, while she sails back to NZ on her own, picking up crew every now and then. Very gutsy, but she will manage it, she seems super organised and capable.

Photo bombed by a frigate bird!
