Round the island walk

We started from the dinghy dock in Britannia bay heading to the the mangrove trail around the lagoon and then up and over following the path along the coast to Macaroni Bay. It was 10 kms to Macaroni beach, where we had our little picnic of trail mix and all fell asleep on the beach.

Starting From Britannia Bay, then off on the Mangrove trail next to the Lagoon

Lovely shady walk back to the dinghy dock, up and over the island

Phoebs spotted this gorgeous little nest, very clever anti snake position! We saw two snakes on the walk both over 1m long each.

Hoping those eggs are safe in the snake proof nest with all those prickles around

In the evening the McCallum’s eldest son James picked us up from the dinghy dock in their buggy. What a wonderful holiday island for kids, so much entertainment and loads of other kids for a good social scene. Their daughter had gone back to university at Princeton in the States in the morning and their other son Alex is at Eton, what a place to be doing lockdown. The house was pretty amazing, big white timber and stone old construction with a large high roofed verandah that they added. Dena and Gordon are both currently working UK time so get up at 5am for work each day. It was a bit like going back in time as their staff obsequiously waited on us in a very old fashioned manner, we felt slightly uncomfortable! The chef came out at the end to check we liked his chocolate pudding. The Gormleys all wolfed down their food, we were definitely a lot hungrier than them! It seems to be a condition of the island that you employ at least 3 house staff and have accommodation for them. An entertaining evening of catching up.
