Return to the Cays

It was not the most restful night, as the waves, wind and tide rush around the promontory and create turbulent waters. We spun around wildly , which was unsettling but luckily the anchor didn’t budge.

The winds are calming down and we set off for the short crossing to the Cays, once more getting the Gennaker up and down without hassle. It was a lovely comfortable sail over, Rowan chuffed to be getting up to 10 knots of boat speed in light wind!

The artificial beach we swam around to.

Just a restaurant at the beach, the accommodation is at the top of the hill.

We arrived in the Cays and were surprised to find very few boats. It does seem quite bouncy, maybe that has kept people away. We are finally mastering getting onto mooring balls without any help. Poor Romeo looks so dejected when we turn down his help because we want to practice. Our new boat hook that threads the rope automatically is absolutely the most ingenious invention! Rowan tells me it is thanks to Jacqueline on Fatjax, that we have it. They are currently in Antigua and we are crossing fingers our paths may cross before May.

I had a little snorkel from the boat to cool down, although the days have had a lot of cloud it has been very hot. The current and tide were pumping so I swum up current to the next mooring ball, what a success….. there was a huge big turtle and a small one, I assume is offspring, eating around the concrete block the ball is attached to. I managed to hold on the rope and just watch for ages, they finally departed after surfacing for air. As soon as they left another turtle arrived, I think it may be a grooming spot, where the little fish eat all the debris off their shells. I think I may have been hanging over the equivalent of the hair dressers! Finally I just drifted with the current back to the boat where a big ray was lurking, I’m getting a lot braver now, I don’t find that tail quite so intimidating anymore!

Twilight over Baradel island

I’m so sorry about the endless sunset photos but they are so impressive I can’t resist them.
