We had meant to get going early to avoid the midday heat but one way and another it was almost 10am when Rowan and I got going on our walk. We did the same Goat Trail as I did with Phoebe, with a little excursion to the fort at the tip on the promontory. Phoeb’s was heading into town to get laundry done and planned to meet us at Pigeon beach for breakfast at the cafe there. It was another stunning walk and very steamy.

In amongst the big dudes!

Thorn trees from Africa
We finally found Phoebe at the beach, as the cafe was fully booked. We were famished as we had no breakfast and it was nearly midday. We finally managed to get an outside table, half in the sun, and were pretty miffed and starved when it took them over an hour to serve us eggs and bacon! Luckily it had a buzzy vibe with loads of youngsters, and a very good live band with a local girl singing who had an amazing voice. The 24 person crew from the big gin palace Titania, next to us, was having their Christmas party as they had worked over Christmas, which increased the noise level dramatically. We finally moved to the beach for a lovely swim. It was the most crowded beach we have seen since we arrived in the Caribbean, lots of beautiful youngsters (crew), local families and yachties with young kids. It was great fun people watching. An elderly American couple stopped to talk to us, we were the nearest in age to them by a long way, and they were obviously desperate to talk! They apologised to us about Trump and said they were so ashamed of him. Turned out he is a retired medical researcher into genes and viruses, so Covid is his thing. Rowan facetiously asked if he worked with Dr Faucci (chief medical officer in the US who Trump ignored and belittled) and turned out they trained together. They knew S Africa as they have friends in Mtunzini who they visit, it’s a tiny place in Zululand, and definitely off the tourist trail!
We got back to Polepole just as the sun was setting, glad to put our feet up. Phoebs had met a few crew from the boat next door, they came around and asked her to join them going out for the night which she did but only after her evening run!

The sun goes down behind the hill obscuring the sunset here, but the reflections on the clouds more than make up for it
