What a relief to wake up in the morning and we hadn’t had any more drama. Rowan went over to the enormous monohull quite close to us, to check they were ok with us so nearby. The filipino crew were totally relaxed about us being so close, he said there had been plenty of boats on it, what a relief. Rowan went to the gin palace to see if he could thank the guy who directed us to the mooring ball last night, but he found nobody home. The rest of the morning was taken up with sorting out our various issues. Rowan got his Snuba out, his battery operated scuba kit, to go and have a good look at the rudder damage. He surfaced very pleased with the epoxy putty he put on last night, but it needed more. Poor Rowan dropped his last tube of ready mix epoxy in the sea, and it’s too deep to get to the bottom with his Snuba. Luckily he found some two part putty that I mixed and handed to him in the water. Thankfully it all went to plan, and now we have epoxy putty on the shopping list, for more emergencies! I’m trying to fix our canvas bag for the dinghy, it is slow hard work sewing thick canvas, but getting there. We have three sets of guests visiting before we leave for the UK on 25 March, suddenly we are looking very busy. We will have to get PolePole hauled out to fix the rudder, so Rowan is trying to arrange that in Lombok. We had planned to leave the boat in the water at a marina, but if we have to haul her out, we might as well leave her on dry land for the 7 months we are back in the UK. So plenty to sort out. We have my nephew Lovat and his family, two little kids coming from Hong Kong this Friday. It will be so exciting to have them on board.
In the afternoon we headed into town to go for a walk through the streets and see what the shops were like. The supermarkets look a real step up from Sorong. There are endless Coffee shops, it seems to be the latest trend. The streets are lined with trees keeping the pavements shady which is lovely. We had a great wander around. We met up with Aaron and Daiana (Brazilian spelling!) at a Smokehouse restaurant run by an Indian guy. The smoked NZ lamb had enticed everyone in. We are eating earlier and earlier as we are all quite tired. We were back on PolePole by 8pm! Quite exciting having a long pitch dark dinghy ride back to PolePole through endless lit up phinisi boats and coral reefs.
