Mad dogs and Englishmen and us!

We planned to set off early to climb up to Napoleon’s fort at the top of the hill, to avoid the midday heat, but with a couple of distractions, like checking out of Guadeloupe (we head to the Venezuelan island of Los Roques tomorrow), trying to find a place to buy US dollars and looking for the chandlery to buy a French flag. We seem to have lost our French flag which we should be flying here in Guadeloupe. All this meant that we did the walk in the midday heat! We did have stunning views again, looking out the other direction from yesterday.

We went and spent the afternoon at the this lovely beach called Pompierre beach, that has no development around it and is kept as a park. Sadly it seems blighted by the sargasso weed which was everywhere. They obviously rake it up and there are enormous piles collecting of the rotting weed. We had a very good lunch at a little cafe/bar nearby and then spent the afternoon reading on the beach. We clocked up nearly 9kms walking which was good. We didn’t swim as it doesn’t seem right if the sun isn’t shining!

We headed back via the supermarket to do a bit of provisioning as we don’t think we will find much in Los Roques. Back on the boat we got prepared for our departure which meant getting our Baby (Spice girl) Spinnaker out and ready to put up tomorrow.

I just have to include this the colours are so amazing!

PS It seems as if we will have very little internet for the next 16+ days, so this may be the last you hear from us for a while. We plan to be in Bonnaire, the Dutch island by 15 April to pick up our friends the Kirbys and will defintely have signal then.
