Rowan, Greg and Miranda went for a snorkel in the morning, I decided against it as it was windy and choppy, Jan doesn’t snorkel. They had a good snorkel although it ended with Greg getting very irate with a kite surfer who came way too close to Miranda splashing her completely as he turned, obviously because she is so eye catching. The sleazy Russian as he became known got an earful from Greg who is extremely safety conscious (Greg is a RYA sailing instructor so knows his stuff!). Unknowingly, Rowan was talking to the Russian’s artificially inflated wife on the beach (also rather eye catching I assume!), who also shouted at her husband for spraying Miranda.
Greg gave us a lift in his dinghy to the beach as his is much easier to lug up the beach as there is no dock. Nobu is the other end of the beach to the development. We could only dinghy so far before hitting reef, so we had a good 10 minute walk. For those of you who don’t know (especially the South Africans), Nobu is an upmarket chain of restaurants started by a Japanese celebrity chef back in 1990’s, Japanese-Peruvian fusion cuisine. There are a couple in London, we went to one many years ago. We have subsequently learnt that De Niro is the main investor of Nobu since it’s inception and that they have rights on all the land from the restaurant to the ugly development, with a couple of pockets in local hands. Very sad that he has rights over the vast majority of this idyllic beach and it making it exclusive for the super rich.
We finally got to the restaurant which was very nicely done, very low key and reasonably discreet, unlike the development. Greg was very kindly treating us for his birthday celebration which we kicked off with some great Passion fruit margaritas with a chilli sprinkling. We had loads of sharing plates with loads of really delicious sushi and sashimi, and Miso blackened cod which was really special, it is their signature dish. A great way to while away a whole afternoon with loads of wine washing down each round of plates. It was a very jolly celebration, finished off with some really scrummy puddings.

The place was pretty empty for a Sunday afternoon, and they don’t do dinners. There was a table of 3 when we arrived but they left pretty soon after we arrived. Besides that only a very loved up couple, who were dropped off in a big tender from the mega gin palace way in the distance, which had a helicopter on board. We were all air dropping photos when Rowan noticed another name, he googled it and discovered it was a Danish Tech Entrepreneur. A bunch of girls arrived late afternoon, they looked like crew, and nursed single drinks for hours while they all sat on their phones, obviously there to use the wifi!

Wild horses roam the beaches, with gin palace in the distance. The island used to be famous for horse racing, but the hurricanes destroyed everything and now the horses are feral. They seem to love walking on the beach wetting their feet.

On our way back to the dinghy we stopped off at a favourite watering hole of Greg and Jan’s, Enoch’s Bar. It is the only place on the beach that public can go to and it had a few yachties there, propping up the bar. We all had a final rum punch and then headed back to the boats. We both have early starts tomorrow, we head back to Catamaran Marina for our last repairs and Viridian is going back to Jolly Harbour.
