Le Marin – largest marina in the Caribbean

We dragged ourselves out of bed to do a bit of tidying up as the Nautitech dealers were arriving at 9am to check out the long list of repairs and additions.

These two young guys arrived and it turned out the younger one was the owner of the dealership at 31! Anyhow they were very impressive, they agreed and understood the list, so we shall see! There is a Volvo dealer here so the engines will have their service and they’ll look for the intermittent problem. Our solar panels have been very disappointing so we are getting them replaced with a lot more. We are also moving the panels up high to the roofline so they get more sunshine. Which will be very nice to have them out of view. Most of the niggly jobs are known problems, so hopefully that sorts out all our bilge pump issues. The work starts on Monday and I’m now searching for an Airbnb to rent. They say the work should take a week but to get the solar panels sorted will take longer.

A forest of masts!

The Navy out and about.

After they left we went back into town back to the chandlers, who had forgotten to pack a few of the things we had bought yesterday. We also looked for the fruit and veg market, but sadly it was closed by the time we got there. We did find a little greengrocer and stocked up on guavas and granadillas, but very sadly there were no avocados.

The only bad news was that the guys from the boatyard told us we are not allowed to sail around yet. Rowan has misunderstood the lockdown release. However we are going to plead ignorance, there are quite a few boats moving about. The huge majority of people on boats are just sitting here in the bay which is not very appealing to us in such crowds. So we plan to go around to the east side of the island tomorrow, we will try and avoid the naval boats that we’ve seen out and about.

Loads of live aboard boats like the orange one at the back

I’m really enjoying our next book club book, ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’. I enjoyed reading the author’s autobiography many years ago ‘Cry of the Kalahari’. However I can’t believe I’m reading another book about an American child without an education (Educated and The Glass Palace).
