Kite Surfing Heaven

We had quite a bit of rain in the night which cooled things down a lot which was a pleasant change. A very gentle morning, spoke to the girls and caught up with their news. Phoeb’s ducklings are growing at an enormous rate and getting their coloured feathers enabling them to spot the green headed boys. Han is in Maun doing her admin work which sounds pretty hard work on antiquated equipment that keeps breaking down! But her good news is the mother leopard and cubs are back and all safe, she has had a lot of kills so all doing well.

Rowan tried to go back towards the bird reserve to do some snorkelling but was defeated by a rip and breaking waves. Late afternoon we went on the hunt for our path to the beach on the other side of the headland. This time we took Rowan’s phone with his view ranger app, we found somewhere safe to leave Jeldi Jeldi and finally found a path through the mangroves onto a big flood plain. We found dried muddy footprints which must be from local fishermen which guided us and we finally got to the beach. It was a lovely bay but very rough breaking waves. It looked very remote, there was a section signposted that it was dangerous swimming which put me off. Rowan had a bit of a swim but came back looking like Edward Scissorhands, his hair was so disheveled and he was covered in seaweed. A bit of an adventure and good to get a bit of a walk in. I’m missing swimming in this heat, the water around us is very muddy and unappealing.

We went across to the beach where the kite surfers were taking off from and enjoyed an hour of watching them in the cool shade of palm trees. Rowan tried to enquire about lessons, but there was a resounding ‘not possible’ in lockdown.

Our last evening to toast the egrets flying home to roost, as we leave tomorrow back to La Marin for the boat repairs.
