Head to head with the biggest reef fish we have ever seen

We headed into town in the morning to do a bit of provisioning and Rowan desperately tried to buy a new GoPro as his has given up the struggle of the salt water. It seems as if the air is a lot saltier here, all our charging devices are corroding. I was very happy that in his hunt for for a replacement GoPro he finally found a solar light for the dinghy. He found a new battery for the GoPro, but it still did not work.

It was another cloudy day, which really is a bit of a relief heat wise, but not the best for snorkelling. We saw the dark clouds departing and decided to head up the coast in JeldJeldi to the dive spots Andrea 1 and 2. We had a fantastic snorkel, the sun came out enough to really enjoy it. The highlights were a couple of turtles who were so nonchalant and an enormous Rainbow Parrot fish, about 10 times the average size of the parrot fish. Its mouth was the size of a tennis ball. We were gutted we had no camera to photograph it as we have not seen anything like it. Its colours were incredible too, emerald green and maroon, it swam in the shallowest part of the reef often with its fin sticking out the water. Quite something, the way it was biting the coral, you would not want to get too close, I reckon you could easily lose a finger or get a nasty bite. It was also not concerned with us, so I assume it is used to snorkelers. There were very smart private homes along the beach, must be wonderful to just walk down and enter this coral garden paradise. The coral in the drop off into the deeper water is spectacular, quite the best we have seen. Just so sad we don’t have an under water camera anymore, there is not a single one to buy on the island, Rowan has checked.

In the evening we went for an early supper at La Cantina, which has a brewery attached, we had our best meal so far. Great atmosphere in their garden set up, the Dutch bitterballen made a tasty starter, good service and delicious food.

Matt snorkelling at Andrea 2 dive spot!
