Friday 7 November – on our way to Misool

We were so lucky to wake up to wind. We managed to pick up our anchor no problem in it’s 30 ms of water, we were off. The wind kept up in the low teens so we had a very good sail all the way to our little spec of an island in the middle of no where. We had thought we would get in around 4pm but with the wind we got in around 2:30pm. This gave us time to get settled comfortably, then go and visit the only family living on these islands. It was a pretty large family with about 7 young kids and a couple of babies, and seemingly only 5 adults. We took in lots of left over gifts which they were very pleased with. The kids were very shy, and struggled to take a lollipop from me. The language barrier makes things a lot harder, throughout PNG, Solomons and Vanuatu they learn English at school, but definitely not here. The place reminded us so much of the San Blas Islands in Panama. We had a little walk on the beach, Rowan had not brought shoes so we could not go too far. The shells on the beach were magnificent in between the endless plastic rubbish and so many shoes. A good early night for our last hop to Misool. We are meeting our friends Xavier and Francoise tomorrow as they head to Sorong to leave their boat for 4 months. They’ve come up the southern route of PNG from Australia, we saw them last in Vanuatu.

The pinisi boats are very elegant
