Friday 27 June – to the top of Moso island

We left our very calm anchorage and headed out the pass to go to an anchorage that is marked by a boat that Rowan likes to follow, because their recommendations are good. Just so happens this boat is called Naivasha, the lake where my grandparents made their home in Kenya. We have never met the boat and their recommendations are from a few years ago. It was a stunning anchorage with gorgeous white beaches and clear blue water. With the new moon the tide must be incredibly low as all the coral was exposed, creating quite a stench, you don’t usually see so much coral exposed.

We went for a snorkel, there was some good coral and soft coral with little clown fish. All small fish though, the bigger fish have obviously all been caught. Sadly the rainy weather must be churning things up as the visibility isn’t the greatest. It was still a good snorkel. We headed to the beach for a walk, where we met a Brazilian couple who were staying at the lodge on the other side of the island, a 30 minute walk away. They were a really interesting and engaging couple, they live on the Gold Coast in Australia, have been there 17 years. She is a vet and had to resit her exams to qualify, she had to go to Canada to sit the exams which seemed bizarre. He is a dental assistant, meant to qualify as a dentist, but got too stressed out by the exams.

We returned to PolePole and got visited by a boat with a couple of cheeky chappies asking for a light for their cigarettes. They had a bottle of spirits and asked us if we had any booze, luckily Rowan said we don’t drink. They asked if they could look around the boat and Rowan said no, which they took very amicably. Rowan did ask if he could take a photo of his tattoo, which I thought was great …….Dear Mom everything you did was worth it!

We had another lovely evening, with the bay all to ourselves, a great sunset and a delicious meal of our tuna.
