Alex arrived mid morning while we were refuelling. We need fuel after our long motor from Biak. There is a scathing review of the marina on No Foreign Land, we thought it was a bit unjustified, one of the issues was dirty fuel. Rowan had checked the diesel here and they have big filters on their tanks, so he was happy to fill up here. Luckily he still used our big filter funnel while pouring the diesel in, it wasn’t long before the filter was completely blocked with algae. This happened every 5 minutes so it took forever to fill the tanks up. So lucky we had the big filter and that Rowan always puts some algae killer additive into the tanks, so fingers crossed we have no problems. It turns out all the algae is in the long hose pipes from the tank, so the fuel was beautifully cleaned until it got to the dispensing pipe! No wonder the reviews were horrendous.
Alex arrived just as we finished refuelling, we got him settled, poor guy has had 4 flights to get here from Amsterdam and a ferry ride. He seems remarkably bubbly for such a long haul. He has just walked over 800km along one of the camino routes in France. We went in a taxi to the new fresh market on the other side of town. We can’t understand why they have put it so far out of town, we did a good stock up on veggies, always interesting to see what strange things are on offer. Alex is vegetarian, and eats plenty of tempeh which is everywhere in the market, we managed to let the block we bought go off, it only lasts 3 days in the fridge. The other amazing thing is that it is really hot to touch, the fungi must be working hard.
We went to the resort restaurant for an early supper, as we need to get to bed early for our 4:30am wake up to see the Bird of Paradise.
