We were not allowed to forget Father’s Day as Alison at the Paradise Bar had been pushing her Father’s Day brunch, which we were very happy to sign up for. We arrived very peckish at 11am and found loads of staff very casually getting things ready. We were pleased to see 2 other bookings. They are very jolly young staff and it is all so neat and tidy, Alison runs a tight operation as there were definitely more staff than guests! We had eggs and bacon with their delicious homemade crispy light flat breads. We also had a plate of Lambi fritters, Rowan hoping it was lamb but turned out to be conch. It was a delicious meal, just the heat and mozzies chased us away after we had stuffed ourselves.

The day had a sort of white haze which was very odd, we were told it was caused by sandstorms in the Sahara, it happens a couple of times every couple of years apparently.

That is the sun through the white haze.
We returned to Pole Pole in time to join our Norfolk quiz, fun to catch up and pleased we came a respectable 3rd place! We thought by choosing Norfolk as our topic we were giving it away to all those with local knowledge, but sadly still too difficult! But not nearly as difficult as the Chapman’s who chose alcohol for their topic.
Sandy island is obviously the Sunday hot spot for the locals. We counted 9 speed boats in the end, all so colourfully painted with very amusing names – Freshly Painted, Kosher, Scrambled. It was great to see the locals enjoying such a lovely place, the only downside is we did see one diver, with a stick skewering some crayfish. It is a marine reserve so no fishing allowed and it is out of lobster season, so that was disappointing, but on the other hand the Coast Guard came and checked them all out.

We were rather surprised seeing the beach party as our weather app was showing a huge storm with big winds hitting us in the evening, and during the night. But the locals must have known better as they only left at last light and no storm materialised. Which I have to say was a huge relief to me.
