Thursday 12 January – Enjoying Coco Banderos

Matt and Stella went for an early morning swim and gave themselves a big fright getting close to a large shark, poor Stella thinks she tweaked her neck in her panic! After breakfast we decided to move to the next islands across in the chain, we didn’t want to go too far as we are dropping Phoebs off at the Corozon de Jesus airport tomorrow. We found a gorgeous island to anchor in front of, and were amazed to find only one other boat, we have discovered it is peak season. We had a lovely very long snorkel around a tiny little island, which most probably isn’t going to last much longer. We saw some nice bits of coral and a few bigger fish. Poor Rowan has discovered his new GoPro camera does not take underwater photos! So no photos of the coral I am afraid.

In the evening we went for sunset drinks, having got permission from the guy who lives on the island, he came and got a big 5 litre bottle filled with our drinking water off the boat. They don’t seem to have worked out a way to catch rain water which seems daft on these island that have no fresh water. We opened a bottle of bubbly to toast Phoebe’s last night and wish her luck in her new venture. The people on the boat next door were out all day on their dinghy and Rowan got really concerned they were not back before dark, but they did turn up just before the last ray of light disappeared. Amazingly they went back out in the dinghy in the pitch dark and came back after 11pm, sounding very merry and singing loudly. We think they must have been visiting boats where we were anchored last night, quite hairy navigating all the reefs in the dark.
