En route to St Barts

We were off the mooring ball and on our way by 6am. Nice gentle winds so it wasn’t long before we had the Gennaker sail up. We were soon sailing comfortably between Dominica and Guadeloupe. By 9:30 we were in the shadow of Guadeloupe, the wind had died and gone all flukey so we got the Gennaker down, put the engines on and had our daily cooked breakfast.

Passing Guadeloupe

The Saintes island south of Guadeloupe look very interesting.

Passing Monserrat at sunset

The wind picked up again the other end of Guadeloupe and we were sailing perfectly well with the jib and main sail. We past Monserrat at sunset. There was a big red burning fire down the one slope and we wondered if it was from the volcano, it was just too dark to see clearly. I had been catching up on the blog as we passed Guadeloupe as it French, therefore EU, our phone package works here, free and great reception.

After supper I did the first watch, it was a bit bouncy, so we put a reef in the sail even though the winds were nicely in the mid teens. It made a smoother ride and we were still averaging 6 knots, so not bad at all. An easy steady ride, no other boats during my watch so very relaxing. Rowan surfaced just before 1am and I went to bed.
