Woke up to loads of messages and calls for my birthday which meant I was very grateful for the two cups of tea delivered to bed! Rowan and Phoeb’s did very well at the shops yesterday, I’m thrilled with my two new dresses and a massage voucher from Phoebs. We packed a small picnic (as we were also going out for dinner) and finally set off to town where we had a Mule (golf cart) booked. Sadly there is only one rental company on the island, the owner came to give us the sad news that the only cart left and had a flat battery. So we walked which was much better for us and very pleasant along the shoreline. We walked to Lagoon bay which was stunning. They have a lot of picnic tables under wooden gazebos which can be booked by the homeowners. Very cleverly it appears that no homes have been allowed to be built on the beaches. We passed a few elaborate picnics all catered for by staff. We finally found a gorgeous secluded bit of beach, perfectly situated with dense tree shade for Rowan and I, and sunshine for Phoebs.

We went to a restaurant called Firefly which was a little way away. We started walking, by now quite dark and shortly faced a very steep climb, keep in mind it was still very hot. Rowan stuck his thumb out when he heard a vehicle and the kind couple gave us a lift to the restaurant. It was a solid uphill climb which strained the buggy to its limit! We were extremely grateful. The bar was full of loads of young lads, Phoebs was only too happy to go up to get us some drinks. She discovered they are all in their last year of school in New York, someone’s dad paid for 20 of them to join his son on Mustique!
It was a wonderful view from our balcony table, down on to the sea below, with PolePole all lit up. We had lionfish ceviche to start, the locals are encouraged to catch it as they are trying to eradicate it from the Caribbean waters. It was delicious and we can prove it’s not poisonous to eat! We were only one of two tables eating, a really fun and delicious evening. We thought the full moon would guide us down the steep hill but the road is through dense bush so it was pitch dark, but good to walk off the food and the alcohol.
