A hot walk up hill to the warm baths

We discovered that we were moored over lovely coral so we had a good snorkel in the morning, the water is a magnificent colour, just a shame we spotted quite a few jelly fish.

We had asked a couple of young boat boys (15 year olds) to pick us up at 11 am and take us to the warm baths, they had been pestering us for money and we said we would rather employ them. They arrived very promptly at 10:30 obviously very keen for the employment. One stayed behind to look after the boat and the other guy took us up to the warm baths on the side of Petit Piton. It was a very easy walk but we just thought he should earn his money, so we asked him lots of questions and Rowan gave him a few pointers on how to endear themselves to yachties! Leo was very engaged as we climbed up the hot road, of course he was bare foot and didn’t flinch. There was a small fee and then a lovely trail down to the baths, with the warm water coming from below ground. There were quite a few locals there enjoying it, and not a single tourist, I suspect the fancy Sugar Beach resort would not encourage their guests there, a little too rustic for them! We met a man enjoying the baths who turned out to be British, born and brought up in the UK, his dad was from here and had returned here many years ago, he died just before Christmas. This man had come to the funeral and has not been able to get back to the UK because of Covid.

Poor Leo, we wanted a bit more exercise so we decided to continue walking up the hill, he couldn’t believe that we wanted to sweat it uphill just for fun! Fortunately for him we could not go a lot further, as the road ended at the entrance to the Sugar Beach resort and we were not allowed in. It was a good work out which we needed as we are so unfit.

Another calm gorgeous evening
