A day of chores in the marina

We woke up after a surprisingly good night, we thought it was going to be unbearably hot without a breeze, creating the ideal haven for a mossie gang feast. Luckily neither happened we had a gentle breeze and just the odd mossie. Just woke to the kerfuffle of the twin babes across the jetty.

We had to stay in all day as the lady making the cover for Jeldi Jeldi needed her all day to make measurements. Turned out she was a lovely young French lady who was a tailor for Chanel, came here to visit, met her boyfriend and now she is sewing boat covers rather than high fashion goods. We need a cover as it gives sun protection to the inflatable and also is protection from hazards. It’s amazing how battered she is already. Leaving her at dinghy docks has given her a few nasty scratches. The same lady is making openings for our vents in the big sun screens.

We did chores on the boat and I have finally mastered cleaning the windows with a squeegee. Lovely to look through clean windows again.

On other news we have had updates on our neighbours from Turks & Caicos. The German boat reached the Azores safely about a week ago. The Beccles couple departed T&C’s about a week ago and Rowan is rather concerned as it looks like they might hit some nasty weather. Our Trump supporting, non swimmers from Detroit sent Rowan a message to say they had finally made it to the Dominican Republic thanks to the navy bringing them in as they had engine failure! They were heading to Peurto Rico on their American passports but obviously had problems and had to go into the DR. Their issue is that the DR has the second highest Covid fatalities after Cuba in the Caribbean and I think they will struggle to get into any other country now. Our Norfolk friends on Fatjax got to Florida safely, they did extremely well after a long, non stop passage from the US Virgin Islands. They’ve now further up the American coast and facing some weather coming up I believe.

It is a holiday here today and tomorrow so all the shops are closed, we were hoping for a take away but no such luck, and stupidly we have not done a very good provisioning shop. We are heading off tomorrow to a nice bay with a beach and have to be back next Wednesday for more repairs. We are all accepted into Grenada, Rowan has booked two entry slots, the 3 June and the 12 June. Then we do two weeks quarantine there and then try and fly home. It’s all coming together with getting lots of little niggles on the boat ironed out too.
