Sunday 25 August – Torrential rain

Rowan had a bad night’s sleep as the young Norwegian boat that parked close behind us came back from town after supper and had a bit of a party. He managed to convey that he was unimpressed by shining his bright torch at them and they soon got the message. I thankfully slept through it, the only good thing about my ear infection is I can’t hear a thing out of that ear. Rowan was glad to see the party boat depart this morning!

It was a very overcast morning, Rowan decided to check out the weather and discovered a little storm was brewing with 40 knot winds and loads of rain. By the time we realised that we needed to batten down the hatches, it was raining hard. We had to put away our code zero and our inflatables, which Rowan had to do most of it as I didn’t want to get water in my ear. It rained solidly from midday and into the night. We had a thunderstorm early on, we turned off the electrics and waited for the lightening to pass. Three out of the 13 boats like ours have been struck and had all their electrics fried so it is a little nerve racking. The wind picked up for a bit but never got much over 25 knots. Rowan had got our huge spare anchor out in case we needed to use it. The wind swung 180 degrees as predicted, and even though a couple more boats had come in seeking shelter we all managed to swing around with loads of space. We did hear a boat further north up the chain of islands, dragged their anchor and crashed into another boat. The wind was much stronger north of us, we were in a sheltered spot thankfully.

We were in bed early incase we had a disturbed night, definitely enough excitement for one day!

Fortuitously we were in a really good sheltered spot

Morning cloud, over the busy little village

Pouring rain, at times it was hard to see the village buildings and resorts
