Monday 30 September – motoring north in flat seas

We headed up north to the Yasawas Islands. There was absolutely no wind so sadly we had to motor the whole way The wind picked up a little, we rather hopefully put the sails up, but the little wind that did come was from too sharp an angle. It gave us plenty of time for the cousins to reminisce and catch up on stories. Carol and Tim are great company on board, they are thoroughly enjoying escaping the NZ winter. They are both sailors and owned a boat in NZ for a while, so are very at home on the boat. They’ve just recently returned from a yacht charter in the Whit Sundays, Australia, it was very windy and challenging sailing there so this is a doddle pootling along in glorious sunshine.

After about 5 hours motoring north we came to the Manta Ray island, there were only two boats in the anchorage, so much quieter than last time. The boat Hijacker was here, we did Sevusevu in the Lau islands with them. We had a great bbq supper on board washed down with loads of wine and stories!

No wind and not many boats, just reefs to avoid

We passed many amazing islands

We anchored here last time
