Tuesday 1 October – Manta Rays remain elusive

We were in the dinghy by 7:30am to try and catch the Manta Rays who come to the passage between the two islands around high tide. We did two passes through the passage holding onto JeldiJeldi as the current whips through. Sadly we never managed to see the Mantas but we did see stunning coral with plenty of fish. It might be the best coral we have seen in Fiji. Sadly Rowan forgot his GoPro so I have no evidence of it.

It was really hot and without any wind it seemed to sap our energy. We went out again around 4pm but still did not see the Mantas. Disappointing as the couple on the boat Hijacker saw them yesterday.

We enjoyed another good sunset and amazingly Carol and I saw the green flash on the horizon. It is a first for me, I was very pleased that Carol witnessed it too, otherwise I might have thought I had imagined it! Rowan and I have been looking out for the sun setting green flash every since we started sailing.

Tim cooked us a delicious prawn curry for supper, all washed down with some very nice wine.

Another first for us – we ran out of fuel in the dinghy. Miraculously just as we were getting close to the boat. Rowan put his rowing skills back into practice
