We had our usual cooked breakfast, then a quick snorkel out on the reef nearest us. My ears are doing ok, thank goodness with my new cotton wool and vaseline ear plugs plus a swimming cap to keep it all in. Carol didn’t snorkel as her ear is a bit blocked, the water often has quite a lot of what we call Manta food in it, so I’m definitely sticking to ear plugs. The coral was good in patches and some nice little fish, on the plus side we saw two big Napoleon Wrasse, huge reef fish with fat lips and a big hump on the forehead resembling the Emperor’s hat. They grow up to 6 foot long and live to up to 30 years, sadly on the endangered list, as they are the most expensive live reef fish, highly sought after in Asia.
The ferry arrived just after one, we had to dinghy to it as it just anchors out in the water, the resort has no jetty. We waited in amongst a queue of long boats and resort boats, offloading and loading clients. We were eventually tied up alongside the big ferry and said our farewells to Carol and Tim. Sad to see them go as they have been great company and good to get to know, Rowan has not seen much of Carol since his childhood. With huge efficiency our two big boxes from Farmboy, full of fruit, vegetables and 30 eggs were waiting for us. So unbelievably efficient, all run by Indians who specialise in such brilliant logistics. We unpacked everything back on PolePole and the quality was great, not a single broken egg, and my kg of lettuce was impressively fresh.
It was another very hot day so we sat up front of the boat to catch the breeze in the afternoon. Natalie and Sam from the Cat Kindred Spirit saw us sitting up front and came and joined us for sundowners with their 18 month old boy, Richy. Fascinating listening to their life, the boat is their home, they have a nanny on board to help with Richy which must be a huge relief to Natalie who is the keen sailor. You can’t take your eyes off Richy for a second as he has just learnt to crawl and seriously into exploring, but a real cutie, what a way to grow up.
We went to the resort for dinner at 7pm, of course it was pitch dark navigating our way in, newish moon and no spectacular sunset tonight. Our expectations for dinner were pretty low, so we were very happy when it turned out to be a delicious dinner, one of the best we have had in Fiji.

The area on the right is where they filmed the movie Blue Lagoon
