Sunday 6 October – heading north up Yasawa Island

The wind has arrived and will last until Friday, so we headed north looking for some good shelter. It wasn’t worth putting the sails us as we were not planning to go far. We came around the headland into this enormous bay and there was not a boat in sight or any sign of habitation. We thought the rolling grassy hills looked a bit like Scotland. It was protected from the wind but the swell was getting us. PolePole was gently rocking, but we decided we could manage for the night. Rowan did a long swim and explored along the shoreline, the water was not very clear and the coral not that great either.

We have decided to have a couple of days of letting our bodies recover from the daily wine drinking over the past week. Plus we thought we should have a couple of vegetarian healthy days, so Rowan cooked up a huge pot of beans and vegetables (mainly aubergine) in the slow cooker. It really was a very scrummy meal, turns out it wasn’t totally vegetarian as he used some delicious bone broth I had bought in NZ!
