Thursday 27 November – great snorkelling

Clint and Xavi had a very hot night, Clint was googling nearby hotels in the early hours of the morning! We will give them our Dyson fan and hope that improves things. Another blistering hot day, so we spent the most part of the day in the water cooling down. We did a long morning drift dive at the Eastern point of Kri. Loads of rubbish and debris around, thank goodness it all seems to float as you see very little rubbish on the sea floor or on the coral, so you just have to keep your head down! In the afternoon we went between the islands on the Western side of Kri, with beautiful colour water over the sand. We had a snorkel at a Homestay’s jetty on the other island which had an enormous collection of fish, including a Crocodile fish, some giant clams and a huge Napoleon Wrasse. We had a good drift snorkel too, the current just gently pushing us along. It all came to a quick halt as the sky got darker and darker and thunder rolled nearby. We rushed back to the boat, getting back to PolePole just in time, we had a shower of rain but we missed the main path of the storm, thank goodness as there was lots of lightning.

In the evening we went for a very good supper at the Eco resort whose mooring ball we are using. The resort was very basic but nicely done, all made with local materials. The highlight was seeing their tame possum coming for his nightly bananas. Indonesians call a possum a Cuscus, and this one was christened Otis! He had an amazing rat like tail, and claws much more like a bird, and huge eyes, typical I guess for a nocturnal creature.

Not sure what he is but the little blue fish is a Fusilier which we usually see in huge groups
