Thursday 16 October – no wind the whole day

My morning shift included a great red sunrise, with dark clouds but no wind. We motored all last night and no sign of any wind during the day either. It was a slow hot day, running the motor always makes it feel even hotter somehow. We had to be vigilant as we discovered there were still massive tree trunks to avoid, my theory about them being caught in the bay was wrong, they are everywhere. Not only that we have FADS (Fish aggregation devices) to avoid too, plus fishing boats that don’t appear on our radar and obviously don’t have AIS. Otherwise it was an uneventful day, just grateful we topped up with fuel in Biak. We can easily motor the whole way if need be. We have a very early supper at 6pm and Rowan is in bed by 6:30 pm, so it is a long slow evening.

Sunrise just before 6am

Dark clouds and rainbows brought no rain

More enormous tree trunks to avoid

A fad with a boobie on top checking out the fish underneath it

A spectacular sunset
