Thursday 21 August – Squall after Squall

It was a spectacular sunrise, its getting later as we move West, it was 6am before any hint of light. We were very pleased to have got through the narrow channel in the reef between Solomon Islands and PNG safely. Good to be leaving the Solomon Islands behind and looking onto the island of Bougainville in PNG. We both had very little sleep last night so we took it easy. We got the Parasail up again, but it did not last that long as the wind died once again. We motored through so many squalls and heavy downpours for most of the day. It was only when I took over in the evening that I saw some terrible fork lightning, luckily two vivd bolts and it moved away never getting closer than 5 miles thank goodness, but at night it looks so much closer.

With a couple of day time naps we were ready for another night’s watch and look forward to getting to our check in town called Buka early tomorrow morning.

We saw this crazy looking thing, that we were very glad we didn’t hit, on closer inspection it is a tree stump

The squalls from behind are the ones we have to watch as they have the wind behind them, it feels like they are hunting us down
