Tuesday 3 June – back to Port Vila

We headed back to Port Vila to take Jane and Mike back. It was forecast to rain most of the day, it turned out to be a smattering of rain every now and then. The winds were good so we had a nice sail back to the marina. There are big waves at the entrance to bay of Port Vila, they are shown on the navigation charts and they really make their presence known. Jane and Mike experienced a short period of good bouncing. The marina boat man came and helped us to attach ourselves on the mooring ball, so that was a slick and easy arrival. We waited foe a big shower to pass before taking our guests back to the dinghy dock. We will miss Jane and Mike’s enthusiasm and laughter, we had a great time with them.

Alia Vita and Jiyu invited us to join them for dinner at what seems to be the highest rated restaurant in Port Vila, the Stonegrill. We were going early to enjoy the sunset as it is slightly up the hill overlooking the bay. Again it poured with rain just as we were about to leave and the clouds blocked out any decent sunset. Vanuatu is known for it’s beef and so much so that they produce Wagyu beef for Japan. We all had Wagyu beef in various sizes, everyone was given a sizzling hot stone and you cooked the beef yourself to your own liking. It was amazingly effective and the meat was delicious. It was a very jolly evening, with lots of banter. Rob with his Northern banter and teasing Xavier the Belgian it was a very amusing night.
