Woke up to cloud cover and cooling rain, no wonder we slept so well! It didn’t take long to burn off and we were back to very hot sunshine. We caught up with a bit of admin in the morning and headed out for a midday snorkel on the reef. It was stunning, a lot of the coral looked very healthy and varied, quite a lot of fish. We did have a big black Black Tip Reef shark very interested in us, he kept doing big circles around us, but as he was on his own we ignored him. Just a little unnerving not knowing where he was and then he would appear in front of us over some very shallow coral. Some of the coral was very colourful with loads of clams embedded, all with their different brilliantly coloured lips. We are baffled how they decide on their colouring. Such a shame Rowan didn’t have his Go Pro but maybe just as well as I think I maybe overdid the photos on the blog yesterday, sorry! We walked around the Motus where we were snorkelling, which was not nearly as big as yesterday, very scenic and interesting with the lava wall in the distance.
We headed back to PolePole to make a late picnic lunch to take to this lovely protected shady beach we found yesterday. I made a quick guacamole with one of my enormous delicious looking avocados. With our bag packed we set off to our same pink sand wall pathway and went and spent the afternoon on the beach reading our books. It was a beautiful spot with very enticing water. Rowan had a snorkel about but it was not as good as our morning snorkel outside the lagoon. Finally the ants, mozzies and noseeums got the better of us and we retreated to PolePole for late afternoon tea and stale choccie biscuits.
We have had a whole chicken cooking in the slow cooker all day, the smells driving us crazy, it was wonderful to finally get stuck into the Galapagos chicken from the farmer’s market stall. It was really tasty and will last us a good few meals.
