Tuesday 7 March – Boobies keeping up with Scary all day

It was a good night, everyone had good shifts and a couple more boats were overtaken, bringing us to 10th position. Actually the first two positions don’t count as one is an American boat that has dogs on board so could not stop at the Galapagos islands and the other is an American boat coming across from Baja California.

First excitement of the day was to find a flying fish had come through our window and died on the floor while we were asleep. We are all so amazed at the Red Footed Boobies keeping up with the boat out here so far from land. No wonder they like to come and rest on the boat.

I was feeling a little lazy today and skipped Han’s energetic work out class, I shall have to do better tomorrow! The kitchen was busy today with loads of fish prepping by Nevil, sashimi for lunch and beer battered fried fish goujons for supper. The girls had tofu which did not look nearly so appealing!

We decided the winds were gentle and consistent enough without any squalls about, that we would leave Scary up all night. We should cover some good miles. Mid afternoon Rowan clocked we had done over 200 miles in the last 24 hours which is great news.

Very attractive Red Footed Boobies with lots of blue around their eyes. So amazing they can cling onto the railing with their web feet
