Tuesday 17 January – Another night out at Eben’s

We had a good long snorkel at midday, there was some lovely coral, not many decent sized fish although we did see a few bigger ones, including a Grey Trigger fish. We enjoyed watching a big Sting Ray just cruising up and down the drop off.

When we were finished we went to Eben’s island to pick up some fruit and veg that he had picked up for us. We walked around the island to get there and found a huge pot of lobsters on the fire, for tonight’s supper. We returned to JeldJeldi via the Tsunami pathway.

Rowan got the guests out bottom scrubbing in the afternoon which worked up a good appetite for our meal at Eben’s. As we were anchored the other side of the island we gingerly made our way to supper, through very shallow waters, glad for a bit of light at 6pm. Our last night with the Kirbys, so we were armed with glasses, sake and wine.

There were other guests for supper, all Swiss. A charming young family with 6 year old twins, boy and girl. The couple on the other boat we had met in Nargana town, they are on an old Nautitech catamaran like our old boat. He has an artificial leg which must be quite difficult getting in and out of boats. There was also a rather ferocious looking single handed sailor about our age. An interesting collection of Swiss people with very sweet kids. It was another delicious meal from Eben, Ceviche followed by lobster and curried vegetables with a sweet coconut pudding.
