We had a lovely peaceful night and had a very slow start. Rowan dashed off to get our bread from Eben and came back with a delicious big foccacia loaf and a present from Eben, a beautifully painted gourd.

Our present from Eben
We all got down to chores. I had to clean the guest cabin for our friends the Kirby’s who arrive tomorrow. Our salty emptying of the bilges had made a mess. Everything needed a wipe down. Plus the whole boat needed a hoover and sort out. All extremely hot sweaty work in this climate. Rowan had various chores and then did a lot of cleaning PolePole’s bottom. Surfacing like green man with green weedy stuff clinging to his beard like Velcro! Phoebs is making us covers for the two big hatches in the cockpit area, they let in an incredible amount of sun and heat in this weather. She also finally joined Rowan for a bit of bottom scrubbing to cool off! We finally got going for our walk on the beach much later than we intended, only to find we hadn’t put the bung in JeldiJeldi, with the combo of the rain she was way too full. The poor old winch strained getting her up but she was soon empty. Only to find that Rowan’s phone had been swimming in the bottom. It will be a good test to see if it is truly waterproof!

Hot work in the bilges

Anchored away from the crowds
We went to the beach for a walk and discovered Eben on the leeward side of the island, we had his bread pan and Tupperware to return to him. We did a nice little walk around the island to his place. We weren’t eating, but Phoebs and I thought we would check out his sister in laws molas (embroidery work). Not nearly as intricate as Venancio’s! But we still managed to buy a couple. We headed back to the other side of the island along his Tsunami path. We haven’t been to the little bar on this side, so we decided to go and have a beer, especially as we always leave JeldiJeldi there. The owner looked quite different to the local Gunas, tall and long dreadlocks. He said his wife was Guna. They had a little stall that we bought some papaya from, then sat down to some beers and Phoebe a coconut. They are much more sophisticated this side, the owner’s kids were here on holiday and they were all on their electronic devices. When Rowan asked them what they like best, home in Panama City or San Blas, Panama City was the resounding winner!
