Tuesday 14 February – celebrating 36 years of marriage!

Firstly sorry about the delay in getting the blog out, but it has been busy……Thanks for being patient Livvy!

We had a night of seals thumping up and down on our sugar scoops (the tail end of the hulls). Our huge fender defence stopped them coming into the cockpit, but not on the flat bottom step, which we didn’t have enough fenders to cover. Widge and I went to the market to get some fresh produce, lots of good stuff and thankfully we were able to replenish our eggs. Edmund and Jonny went into town and sorted out their accommodation. Jonny’s wife Janey flew in today and are staying at the Dolphin Hotel. Widge and Edmund have booked in there once Han and her friend arrive on Thursday.

In the afternoon we all went for a walk to the Interpretation Centre on the edge of town. We opted not to do the go through the building and study the facts, but went for the walk up to the spectacular view points. Good to get our hearts beating. The path goes through an old lava flow, which is paved with cut lava boulders. It was a lovely walk up through trees and we were escorted by some very friendly Flycatchers, who took a fancy to Widge and I, in our hats, and kept landing on our heads! We got to a wonderful set of cliffs near a big sculpture of Darwin where we saw our first Blue Footed Boobies which was exciting and a Frigate bird with a red ballooning chest, the mating season is about to start. It was a great walk back along a couple of beaches, the first one had loads of iguanas on the beach, you almost trip over them. We had a lovely refreshing swim at a lovely beach right on the edge of town.

In the evening we celebrated Valentine’s night at a great restaurant that uses all home farmed produce. Janey had arrived safely and joined us. It was a very tasty meal.

We found this eclectic bunch of dogs on the way to the market
