We got up early so that we could sit out and watch the dawn chorus of the birds on the river. It was well worth it, in the morning light we got a much better view of the emerald parrots squawking over us in their pairs. We were also graced with the Osprey’s company again, he ate his fish for breakfast in exactly the same spot he had his fish or supper, right next to us. We saw about 7 Howler monkeys in the distance and then were thrilled to have a different troop come and show off their acrobatics right next to us. Plenty of Toucans passed overhead too. It was a good start to the day.

Out with the binos!

Our overnight spot

The Osprey back with breakfast
After breakfast we made our way back down the river and through the mouth out to see. We had to motor as we were heading into the wind. Luckily it was pretty calm seas and we managed to get in through the Canal to the harbour pretty easily. Chris was fascinated with all the comings and goings of the huge boats, all controlled by a very able sounding female harbour master. What a nightmare dealing with all the foreigners, misunderstanding let alone the tanker letting her know their anchor was dragging!

Back through the river mouth

About to enter the harbour
We got into the marina, welcomed back by Eddie the harbour master. It all felt very familiar, including seeing the Yellow Shirt officials from the Arc who we got to know in St Lucia. In the afternoon we suggested Isobel and Chris go on a walk to the beach we went to while we had all our safety inspections done. We didn’t pass, but we didn’t do too badly. Things like our gas canisters on our life jackets have all corroded and need replacing, and other bits and pieces. It is a very thorough check and a good thing too, we can’t go until we pass!

Coming into Shelter Bay marina
In the evening we went to the bar where the Arc were having a happy hour. We met our neighbours, an English couple on a boat called Mistral, two ex RAF pilots who finally landed up flying for Virgin Atlantic, which was interesting. We were pretty tired and excused ourselves to have our final supper with Isobel and Chris. They had a very good walk and saw plenty of creatures to keep Isobel very happy. They have another week exploring the country, with an emphasis on bird watching.
