We had a few things still to get done today. If all went to plan quickly, we wanted to check out in the morning and head to Guadeloupe at 12 at the latest as it is a 5 hour sail away. It soon became evident that things would not be ready in time, so we added a few more things to get done. The vast majority of the workman have been wonderful to deal with, but things do just take long getting done here. Thankfully the new main halyard went up like a dream.

PolePole feeling very grown up in the Super Yacht dock

He told me to take a photo as he has run out of business cards!……. dockside hair cuts
We finally decided we needed some time off the boat. We took the dinghy across to Falmouth marina and then walked to Nelson’s Harbour to do our check out with Customs and Immigrations. That was frustrating as the Ports Authority lady was on lunch, at her desk watching tv. Finally another lady took pity on Rowan and cleared us out. It is such a rigmarole clearing out, an enormous amount of form filling, even though you’ve entered it all online already. All very tiresome, it must be a way of keeping people employed.

Heading to Falmouth marina on the other side of the bay

So many big boats

I wonder if any Oligarch boats are hiding here

Some lovely old boats

The inflatable flamingo is breeding…….. stopping dinghies getting too close to the mother ship
We headed over to Pigeon beach and read our papers on the lovely beach for an hour. There was such a noise, coming from the birds above our heads and from kids having a ball in the water.

Pigeon beach

Noisy birds

Nest in tree above us

Stunning old sloop leaving at sunset
The last builders went after 6pm so we decided to have supper at the marina restaurant with the grumpy Italian chef! The food was very mediocre but it was fun saying goodbye to Marsha, our really chatty waitress, who has been supplying us with delicious fresh rocket and lettuce from her Mum’s garden.
