Saturday 5 July – back to Luganville

It was an incredibly calm night, the anchorage was very well protected. It was sad to leave this spot as it is very special, but we need to get to town and see if we can organise a new phone for Rowan. We have now remembered that Rowan dropped his phone about a year ago, after he had it for a week. We had the front glass repaired in Whangerai. Obviously the seal was not that good as his phone is dead to the world. We are also going to meet up with Ian and Laura, who is back from her brother’s funeral in the UK.

It was an hour’s motor around the channel back to the same mooring balls at the dive centre. Three other boats were on balls, Paul the dive centre owner had reserved the last one for us. Luckily we got out our fancy mooring pole, it worked a treat, we easily managed to pick up the ball without any help! Rowan had to go into the centre and pick up all the diving gear he has purchased. Paul had a second hand BCD and two tanks for Rowan to purchase. After our fiasco getting the anchor stuck around a bommie at 20ms we do not want to get caught out again.

By this time it was nearly 2pm so we rushed into town, only to discover that Saturdays are half days so nothing was open. We did find a closed shop that does iphone repairs, so we will bring Rowan’s phone in on Monday. We are also going to have to try and buy a new one, we have become dependent on our phones!

Laura and Ian were exhausted from their trip up and as there was no mooring ball for them they had to anchor the other side of the channel, we will catch up for lunch tomorrow.

Navigating our way down the channel past a stunning little island

So idyllic with a wonderful reef out to the right we had to avoid

Couldn’t believe it was a private residence!
